I’m hoping to have one of those TL;DR reviews I do of the first two issues of Winter Soldier up soon. But, for a quick opinion, it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a Brubaker/Guice Bucky book. I think there’s a tone already there and the heavy inks and colors do a lot to establish atmosphere. It’s not quite like any book on the market in how it handles superheroics and the Marvel Universe. I think the first issue was stronger than the second because it made room for the character moments that ground the best of Brubaker’s work. But he’s sort of a slow-burn storyteller, and it usually takes some time for him to get all the pieces into place.
I am glad someone’s brought Lucia Von Bardas back (even though I sort of hate Secret War), and I’ve been wanting Brubaker to do something with Red Ghost for a while.
