dianariggslegs asked: Black Widow and Hercules. I have all the questions about them. All of them, like why and how. But recommended reading would suffice.

GRRM and Retroactive Continuity
So something on the internet happened and George R. R. Martin had an opinion about the Avengers movie. He liked it (he wouldn’t say he loved it) but he had some problems and those problems were codenamed Hawkeye and Black Widow. Same’s true of the Black Widow. Scarlett Johanssen looked great in that outfit, but she seemed to be there only as eye candy. The shot in the middle of the...

starkexpos: Hi Tumblr comics fans, Let’s accomplish some social good today. The organization One Million Moms, who describe themselves as “a network of Christian mothers and grandmothers taking a stand for our children who are exploited by the entertainment industry”, have recently released a statement asking for a write-in campaign to Marvel (owned by Disney) and DC (owned by Warner Bros.)...

Anonymous asked: I just wanted to ask, as a young male actually enjoying BLACK WIDOW STRIKES, am I a horrible person? I didn't know it was published in MAXIM and I don't read it just to see a scantily-clad Russian spy jump around. I actually like the take on the character, and I really like the Bondian elements and especially all the identity-hopping! It obviously doesn't mean as much to me as...

My Black Widow collection.
This is from crayongiraffe: Here is my collection of Black Widow comics that I have collected over the few months. There are a series of Black Widow, Origins, Black Widow and Marvel Girls and some one shots from Fear itself and Secret Avengers. :D Sorry for the bad quality x_x This is terrific! Some of my favorite issues :’)

Why I loved Black Widow's portrayal so much
georgethecat: I was a little worried about how the sole Woman Avenger was going to be portrayed. Often, when there is just one woman in a group of two or more males, they become a prize to be fought over or won. I actually didn’t want her to have a romance storyline. Not that a female character having a romance storyline is a bad thing, but it’s a fairly cliche tactic that the lone lady gets...

Control, or "Do you really think I'm pretty?"
Here is the required post about the Avengers film, that Loki interrogation sequence, and themes of weakness, expectation, and vulnerability. When I say required, I mean everybody else is doing it, but that I will soldier on bravely, just like every other person on the internet in love with their own opinion. So, Natasha’s most constant recurring themes are themes of control. Comic books...

Black Widow Strikes Update!!
In issue #2, Natasha’s fight scenes are in a bikini: And in an ultra low-cut evening gown: She has yet to do an action sequence in her actual uniform. Remember, everybody, this is the only Marvel book out this month headlined by a female character. (The only book out next month headlined by a female character, too, iirc.)

Mother's Day, Addendum
This started off as a rant I was going to unleash by reblog, but I mulled it over a bit and decided to put this in its own little box, here. My least favorite fandom Natasha trope is definitely the one where she’s secretly jealous of other women, their children, their fertile wombs. I’m not sure I like what Morgan did— I don’t particularly like retroactive trauma inflicted on...

Natasha tidbits.
Over on an interview wrapping up The Fearless, Cullen Bunn explains that it could have been Natasha’s maxi-series. But, the truth is that Valkyrie wasn’t the original lead in the book. A number of characters were considered—Gambit, Black Widow, and Mystique come to mind. Domino was the front-runner early on, and I have some original outlines from when she was going to fill the role that...
